The Village Dairy

We have found a real gem here. This is real milk. This is how I remember milk tasting when I was growing up. The Village Dairy is a small dairy in Carlow that doesn't compromise on quality for the sake of a few cents. Their award winning Jersey milk is the creamiest I've tasted and comes from Woodstown Abbott farm in Co Meath who have the oldest Jersey herd in Ireland.
At the moment they have around 12 local farmers supplying their Organic and Non Organic milk. The milk is pasteurised and homogenised but they tamper with it as little as possible to maintain its great natural flavour. 
And for the coffee lovers out there The Village Dairy Organic Milk, which was a 2016 Blas na hÉireann finalist, is quickly becoming the choice milk for baristas around the country because of the silky smooths results and sweet taste it produces.
We have their Organic Milk, Jersey Milk, Low fat and Full fat, and their Organic Cream. They also have Goats milk which we will stock if there is demand. Let us know.

Pumpkin Carving Competition Winners

 

Thanks so much to all the people who entered our pumpkin carving competition. We couldn't possibly fit all of the entries here so we have just chosen a few to give an idea of what we received and as you can see some of the entries were really impressive. The winner was Jamie who made the big toothy one (middle left) with the flaming skull the runner up. Rock on! Congratulations to them both and well done to all who took part. The winner got a family pass to Tayto Park and the runner up won a months pass and a special thanks to The Marina Creche and Playcentre in Malahide who donated a months pass to the playcentre as the runner up prize. Pumpkin Carving Competition

We're all about pumpkins at the moment. Halloween is just around the corner and to celebrate we are giving away a family pass to Tayto Park! All you have to do is carve your pumpkin, take a photo and post it on our facebook page with you name and age. We will choose the best pumpkin and announce the winner on 31st October! Good luck to everyone! This is a children's competition only, NO ADULT ENTRIES PLEASE!

New Liguori Pasta Range

There are few dinners I love better than a bowl of pasta, some crusty bread to mop up the sauce, and a glass of red wine to wash it down... But it has to be good pasta. In fact there are few dinners I hate more than a bowl of stodgy, gloupy, overcooked pasta. The finer details of pasta quality and and cooking methods are for another post, but really, you are half way there when you have a good quality pasta to start with. 

Pastifico Liguori is a family pasta company from Gragnano near Naples in Italy. Widely regarded as the home of pasta, Grangano has IGP status which guarantees the highest standards in pasta making. Liguori have been making pasta since 1820 so it's safe to say they know what they are doing. They use the best Italian durum what and hard water from Gragnano as their only ingredients. The pasta is extruded through bronze dies which gives the surface it's rough texture and helps the sauce stick to it. Finally, low temperature drying is the key to keeping the flavour in and holding the pasta's structure when cooking.

We have a range of around 6 or 7 cuts so far and will probably try out a few more over time. We hope you enjoy it!
