"It will be dry and sunny today with temperatures from 18 to 25 degrees"

"It will be dry and sunny today with temperatures from 18 to 25 degrees".
Thats according to the weather man on RTE radio this morning. And the same again tomorrow! The smell of BBQ's will be tickling the taste-buds all around the country. We'll leave Brady's, Moran's and Etherson's to sort your meat for you, but we can help you with the trimmings with a few great specials.

Italian new potatoes are perfect for a potato salad and we have 2 kilo bags for €2.

Strawberries, a must in this weather, are €3 for 500g punnets or 2 for €5 while stocks last.

Large Royal Gala Apples will make a great Waldorf salad and are only 5 for €1.

Butternut Squash €1 each... just in case you don't like barbecuing...

Trying to get back on track after the Christmas Gluttony?

We're not nutritionists or dietitians at The Fresh Market but here's our tuppence worth on how to get back on track after the Christmas Gluttony. It's not rocket science. Forget the new craze diet that promises a six pack in 2 days. Bring it back to basics. Good wholesome cooking with quality, healthy ingredients. If you have to snack choose fruit instead of chocolate or crisps. Choose the stairs instead of the lift. Walk to the shops instead of taking the car.

We've chosen our new specials based on this.
Kale: .75c each
Jonagold Apples: 8 for €1
Fresh Beetroot: €1.50/kg
Clementines: 8 for €1

We wish all our customers all the best for 2017.

Pukka Teas Promo, ANY 2 FOR €6.

To be honest, most of the time I'm a Barry's with a drop of milk man but these guys have come up with some really interesting flavour combinations like "Wild Apple and Cinnamon" or "Chamomile, Vanilla & Manuka Honey", and the "Peppermint & Licorice" is a definite favourite of mine.
They seem to have a tea for every mood and situation like their "After Dinner", "Detox" or "Relax" teas and I really enjoyed their "Lemon, Ginger and Manuka Honey" while fending off the winter colds that have been doing the rounds. And on the too many occasions that I have eaten too much, the "Three Chamomile" has been great for settling my stomach. They're Organic and a lot of them are Fairtrade so we think they're pretty good and we are running a promotion for the rest of March where you can get any 2 for €6. Theres a huge range and we don't have them all but we think we've chosen a few of their best ones.

New Specials

Clementines 6 for €1.

These Moroccan Clementines are juicy and sweet at the moment, and we have lots of them. Plenty of Vitamin C for the flu's doing the rounds.

Jonalgold Apples 8 for €1.

These are crunchy and sweet. Great for the kids lunch box.

Celeriac €1 each.

It's coming towards the end of the celeriac season but they are still in good supply and great quality. Lovely in soups or added to mashed potato.

Turnip .49c each.

We're all well used to boiling, roasting and mashing turnips but have you tried making chips out of them? A healthy alternative to potato chips.

New Specials

It's getting chilly now so we've put on a few specials to help combat the cold.

Minneolas: These beauties are deliciously sweet and a little bit tart at the same time. They are in high season now and are really juicy and tasty.
5 for €1.

Kale: Known for its antioxidants, it actually contains lots of Vitamin C as well. Great in soups, stews and of course juiced raw.
.80c each.

Rocha Pears: These Portuguese Pears are ripe and ready to eat at the moment. A sweet, healthy snack for the lunch box or try them in a salad with walnuts and blue cheese.
5 for €1.

New Specials

In my humble opinion, these are four of the best as our new specials.

Pink Ladies are by far the most popular apples we have in stock. We are slap bang in the middle of the French season right now and the quality is great this year. Really deep pink colour, crunchy and full of flavour. We rarely have these on special so I'd take advantage of it.
6 for €2 now.

Fennel isn't everyones favourite but I really love it. It gives a subtle aniseed flavour to your dish and is great raw in salads or roasted but it really comes into it's own with fish. €1.80/kilo.

Sweet Potato. My favourite way to cook it is definitely cut into wedges and roasted with allspice or ground chilli and olive oil. Serve with anything you like or just munch them on their own. €1.50/kilo.

Carrots from Hook Head, 1 kilo bags are .69c. We all know carrots will go with almost anything, but a grate it up with a bulb of that fennel, squeeze an orange over it and your in for a treat.
